CNG is a much cleaner fuel
Our need for alternative motor fuels increases in several perspectives, and gas fuelled vehicles mean reduced discharge of nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide, particles, and less noise. In addition to a low fuel price, gas vehicles also have such advantages as reduced taxation values for staff cars in some countries and free parking in many cities.
About 1.4 TWh of biogas is produced every year in Sweden. In a 10 year perspective, the production potential is estimated to rise to 14 TWh/year. 10 GWh of compressed natural gas a year is the equivalent of a million litres of petrol and diesel.
A EU Commission Directive requires that the use of biogas and other biofuels should rise to 20% of the total motor fuel consumption within a period of 15 years. Sweden has accepted this goal, so a considerable amount of work is being done to construct the infrastructure and vehicles needed to reach these goals and contribute to a long-term sustainable society.
