Gas train
Amanda, the biogas train, departed from the travel centre in Linköping at 14.42 on the 24:th October 2006, for its first scheduled journey on the Tjust line. The train makes one return journey per day between Linköping – Västervik and has now travelled over 70,000 km, a distance which is equivalent to twice round the world.

The two diesel engines in the train have been replaced by modern gas engines with catalysts. Thanks to this, it is a much more environmentally-friendly means of travel, and it does not contribute any carbon dioxide to the atmosphere either. The interior of the train has been modified and renovated as well. It has been given a number of comfort-raising features that will make travel more pleasant for all passengers. They have installed electric outlets for portable computers, a big display screen, mobile telephone repeater and a coffee machine.

Experience gained during the time that the train has been in operation has been highly positive, and everybody is more or less satisfied. Among other things, maintenance costs have remained at the same level for an equivalent diesel train. One special aspect of the train is the attention it has gained, both in Sweden and internationally. There has also been a number of special assignments, such as when the Royal Family used it for a state visit in 2008.
